Loans
Students may be able to receive additional loans (available under the Parent PLUS, DIRECT or Alternative Student Loan program through private lenders—banks, savings and loan associations, or credit unions) to help finance their study abroad. For more detailed information click here.
Work Study
Although work study is not particularly applicable to overseas travel (most eligible students prefer to save their allocation for the semester they will not be abroad), some modest possibilities exist. See or e-mail the International Programs Office about possibilities for earning overseas.

Payment
Please read the following carefully. Within limits, our office can be flexible. Your payment schedule which indicates suggested dates and amounts, is not a contract, since time of acceptance varies. Rather, it suggests ways to meet your obligations in a timely fashion.
Listed below is your Payment Schedule for Semester I or II.
*Note that it does not announce the final program cost.
Due to the wide fluctuation of foreign currencies, we will notify you of the final cost as soon as it is determined, normally 1 month prior to your departure. Please pay by the given dates (bills will not be sent) unless you have made special arrangements with Linda Garski, Business/Office Manager.

We are making every effort to keep your program costs as low as possible, in spite of the significant fall of the dollar. If you have a serious problem in meeting the above schedule or are receiving Financial Aid, please consult with Linda for issuance of a “Deferred Payment Form.” If you do this, please remember that we have no funds to cover the necessary prepayment of airfare/housing reservations so, no matter how you plan to pay, please make sure that you pay us a minimum of $1,500.00 by May 1 for Semester I programs and a minimum of $1,500.00 by September 1 for Semester II programs.
Please make your checks payable to:
UWSP International Programs
Put your UWSP ID number and the program in which you are participating in on the face of your check. No cash please.
Mail payments to:
UWSP International Programs
2100 Main Street
Stevens Point, WI 54481
Financial aid checks will be applied to your balance; we will make arrangements for signatures and refunds as appropriate. We currently are not set up for credit card payments.
*Remember: when your acceptance packet arrives between scheduled payment date, we expect you to send in the proper amount to cover any payment due prior to your acceptance.
Students on Financial Aid
Financial aid generally comes in too late for necessary prepayments: deposits on housing; airline tickets; visas, etc. Hence, we must ask for a substantial early payment.
Do not delay in any of the financial aid procedures: it can be very awkward if the check(s) arrives after your departure. Refunds will not be issued until your bill is paid in full.
Please refer to our checklist of procedures to ensure you are on target.
Students not receiving Financial Aid
If you are not receiving financial aid, we prefer to have payment complete before departure. In exceptional cases, we may approve a deferred payment plan. Please tell relatives making payments that we cannot send bills; they must pay on the dates agreed on.
Feel free to talk to or e-mail Linda Garski, lgarski@uwsp.edu, about your financial arrangements. We must ask that all agreements be in writing, so there are no misunderstandings.
Refunds
When a participant withdraws from a program before departure, or returns to the U.S. before completion of a program, the individual must communicate directly with UWSP International Programs as soon as possible to ensure all essential university procedures are followed and to receive the fullest refund possible. Airlines and international service providers, including foreign universities and their affiliated agencies, often require advanced payments and impose large cancellation fees. In case of a participant withdrawal, UWSP International Programs will strive to refund payments as much as possible to the individual, but UWSP International Programs is not liable for fees and charges imposed by partner agencies and universities.
UWSP International Programs does not purchase cancellation insurance for individual participants. Participants are encouraged to investigate trip cancellation insurance to determine if such insurance is in their best interest to purchase privately.
Withdrawal before the Official Program Commences.
A. Up to one hundred (100) days prior to the official program start date: UWSP International Programs will retain the non-refundable application fee and the arrangement fee. Both fees are transferable ONCE and only to another UWSP International Program offering.
B. In the period from one hundred (100) days to thirty-one (31) days prior to the official program start date: UWSP International Programs will assess penalties for any purchased or reserved transportation and accommodation arrangements as well as any other program expenditure incurred to the date of withdrawal. Application and arrangement fees are transferable in this period as outlined in point A.
C. Thirty (30) days prior to the official program start date: UWSP International Programs will assess the penalties listed in point B and any instructional or arrangement costs that on-site providers assess UWSP International Programs. The application fee is transferable once as outlined above, but the arrangement fee is no longer transferable.
Withdrawal during Official Program: Generally, no refund of any part of the program costs is possible.
NOTE: Individual participants are responsible for all expenses and fees charged for their participation. Any outstanding payments due may be applied to the participant’s UWSP Billing Account.
