Facts
Upward Bound assists low
income and first generation students in achieving their goal of
obtaining a college education through school year and summer
academic programming. 100% grant funded program
is authorized to operate until May 31, 2012.
During participation in the summer session, 50-60
students attend classes,
go on field trips, play sports, engage in other educational
activities and, of course, have fun! Students stay on campus for six
action packed weeks during the summer each year. The summer session
operates 7 days per week.
Upward Bound staff helps students during the school year to make
sure they are getting good grades, and are taking the classes
appropriate for college bound students. Tutorial and counseling
services are provided every week based on a
student's personal needs. Students attend fall and spring
workshops. These weekend workshops usually consist of a
self-development class, mini skill development sessions, and free
time for students to talk to the friends that they have made during
the summer.
