Why Should You Consider Making a
Donation? |

T he
Upward Bound program at UWSP assists low-income and
first-generation high school students prepare for and be
successful in college.
The program serves 10 area high schools in central
and northern Wisconsin.
Upward Bound gives students the opportunity to reach
their full potential.
Due to current funding limits Upward Bound can only
assist about 90 students each year. There are over 10,000 in
our area that are eligible for service, if funds were
available.

What makes the program so important?
|
- Students who have completed Upward Bound are three times
more likely to attain a Bachelor's degree.
- College going rates from low-income families have decreased
by 21% since 1998, due to cost.
- Of the 75% of low-income and first-generation high school
students who want to go to college in our service area, only 28% actually enroll.
- About 80% of high school dropouts are from low-income
families.
- The typical college graduate pays back to their community
$687,384 more over their lifetime versus the typical high school graduate,
in taxes.
- Yearly, 80-100% of Upward Bound Program
graduates enroll in college immediately after their high school graduation.
- On average there is only one high school
counselor available for every 320 students in our service area.
- The program changes students lives.

Your Donation
All monetary donations are utilized in the direct support of
student needs. Some of these are:

- Summer meals and lodging
- Transportation
- Activity fees/student supplies
- Cultural and educational field trips
- Instructional staff to teach college prep subjects
- College admission application fees
- College campus visits to regional
universities
- Accept additional students into the
program
