The Principal Investigator (PI)

The Principal Investigator: Designs the research study. Writes the protocol. Submits the protocol to the IRB for initial review and approval. Complies with all IRB decisions and stipulations. The PI's knowledge and skills are critical to the success of a research protocol. Therefore, before undertaking a PI's repsonsibility you should familiarize yourself with the requirements of the IRB, and seek the advice and guidance of experienced investigators and IRB staff.
