Student Information
To qualify for services through the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point
(UWSP) Office of Disability Services, a student must:
- Meet with the coordinator or advisor of Disability Services
- Have a diagnosed permanent physical, sensory, emotional/mental, learning
or health related disability that may present a barrier to obtaining their
education

documentation appropriate
to their disability.
What We Are About
Your success, while attending UWSP, is our priority.
Some of the responsibility toward
obtaining success is yours, some ours, and other responsibilities we share.
Note that we do not function as a
rehabilitation agency, but rather we provide you with accommodations which are
appropriate to your disability. Our goal
is provided opportunities to help you succeed in your educational endeavors.
What We Provide
Accommodations that are
appropriate to the disability and are in keeping with the letter and spirit of
the law include:
- Exam accommodations: adaptive
or modified test-taking (test
taking procedure)
- Proctors, scribes and readers (test
proctor policy)
- Volunteer note-takers and self-duplicating paper (note
taking procedure)
- Enlarged copies for low vision needs
- Reasonable classroom modifications
- Preferential seating
- Notification to faculty/staff regarding necessary
accommodations
- Orientation to campus for students with visual and/or
mobility impairments; including campus tours, tactile maps and access
designated maps
- Securing sign-language interpreter service for the
deaf and hard of hearing
- Referral to the Assistive Technology program for
text-to-voice service or voice texts ordered from Recording for the Blind &
Dyslexic (RFB&D); based on
availability and timely request (link to
Assistive
Technology)
- Taped textbooks and other printed material read by
volunteers if not provided by Assistive Technology or RFB&D (based on
availability of volunteer readers and timely request)
- Prioritized registration if appropriate to the
disability
- Academic program modifications as appropriate to the
disability
- Assistance with advising
- Campus information and referral information
- Referral to appropriate campus support services, such
as tutoring and counseling
- Referral for time management and study strategies
assistance and training
- Referral for those not yet diagnosed with a disability
- Liaison role with the Department of Vocational
Rehabilitation (DVR) and/or
other community agencies
- A reasonable time response to requests for
accommodations
- A commitment to keeping scheduled appointments
What We Do Not Provide
- Personal attendants
- Transportation and/or adaptive transportation
- Personal computers, electronic/digital equipment, or
other personal equipment
- Legal counsel or legal advice
What Is Expected Of You
- Know and abide by University academic policies and
other regulations.
- Make an appointment with the coordinator or advisor of
Disability Services at the beginning of each semester.
Make additional appointments if you
have further needs for accommodations or concerns.
- Do not miss appointments.
- If qualified for use of test-taking accommodations,
you must:
- Provide the Disability Services Office with the YELLOW copy
of the Accommodation Request Form (signed by the instructor) at least
five working days prior to the exam.
- If qualified to use voice-to text material and
services are secured through the Assistive Technology program, you must:
- Communicate your text-to-voice needs in a timely
manner with the coordinator of Assistive Technology
- Follow Assistive Technology policy in terms of
timely request and provision of class schedules
- Complete application to RFB&D if appropriate and
return to Office of Disability Services
- Purchase your own electronic or digital equipment
as needed
- Make your needs known to this office in a timely
manner
- Become your own advocate.
