Mission Statement

The Disability Services Mission is to ensure that qualified students with disabilities are provided equal access and accommodations appropriate to their disability in all UWSP programs and academic pursuits. Inherent in the mission statement is the commitment to abide not only to the letter but the spirit of the law; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act-1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act-1990.

Coordinator's Welcome

Welcome to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and to the Office of Disability Services. Our office was created to assist in providing accessibility and accommodation services to students with disabilities. We work individually with qualified students to identify, design, and implement an accommodations plan that will aid the student in acquiring equal access to their educational pursuits. In other words, we attempt to help level the playing field.

The Office of Disability Services is all about success, in that our goal is to create a learning environment that will help maximize opportunities for our students to succeed. A high priority is creating a rapport with students so they feel welcome in their communications with our staff. We attempt to meet not only the letter-of-the-law in providing access and accommodation, but also go beyond that measure by doing all within our ability to be sure students receive the best possible support services.

Additionally, our office supports disability and accessibility awareness. A value we hold in high esteem is having UWSP offer a welcoming environment to all people; and we do this by promoting accessibility on our campus. The Office of Disability Services welcomes you.

Sincerely,

Jim Joque,
Coordinator of UWSP Disability Services
