The branch selection process follows the national Order of Merit List (OML) which ranks cadets across the nation from first to last in each commissioning year group. Cadets rank their branch choices from 1-16 in September of the senior year. Between October and November, the Army assigns each cadet a branch to serve in based on their order of preference, ranking on the OML, and branch needs. Branch selection is performance based. Those who work harder have a better chance to receive their desired branch.
