Pointer Pals - fall 2012
Remember
those folks who helped you move your "stuff" into the halls last fall?
Remember how grateful you felt that you wouldn't need to haul your
futon (fridge, TV, boxes) to your room all by yourself?
Did you
know that person also helped with planning activities for the first week
of school? And, with helping new students get to the welcome back
festivities that fill the first month of school?
Want to be one of those great folks? If you
do, contact your hall director or assistant director to get an
application. A select few are chosen - you're one of the first faces
seen when students arrive on campus for the fall semester. We're proud
of these volunteers and hope you'll join our ranks.
Here are some of the expectations and responsibilities of Pointer Pals:
RETURN to UWSP campus on Thursday, 8/30 and attend a training session on Friday, 8/31
HELP people move in
throughout hall opening (9/1-9/3) - unload/carry boxes, help recycle,
give directions, clean up hallways/lobby/lounges, other duties as
assigned
LEAD new students to opening
events and ATTEND them yourself - house meetings, new student welcome
picnic, meals at DeBot with your group, RHA welcome back dance, and
more!
REMEMBER
you are a university team member - you play an important role
you must abide by housing policies -
students will do as you do and not necessarily as you say, so please be a
role model and act appropriately!
direct students to appropriate activities (NOT "house parties even if they ask)
ENJOY - this is your opportunity to make a lasting impression on new Pointers!
