Independent Study - Authorizing Faculty/Staff Screen

Use this screen to grant your faculty or others the authority to approve students to enroll in Independent Study (IS) course sections. When you grant such authority, the person with the designated authority will have access to the appropriate screens to electronically approve students to enroll in an IS section. You have the following options for granting such authority, and you are not limited to one option.

Option 1: Use this option if you want ALL the instructors in your department to have the authority, in their own IS courses and sections, to electronically approve students to enroll in IS.

  • Allow all instructors to approve registrations in their IS sections. If you check this box, all of the instructors of courses and sections in your department will be able to electronically authorize students to enroll in their respective IS sections. Note that instructors will only be able to approve enrollment in their own IS courses and sections.

Option 2: Use this option if you want to grant authority to an individual other than the instructor to approve students to enroll in a specific IS course section. For example, you may designate an individual in the Study Abroad Office to have that authority for semester abroad courses where the instructors are adjunct faculty members hired to teach semester abroad courses.

Option 3: Use this option to grant authority to instructors to approve students to enroll in specific IS course sections. You would use this option if you don’t want to grant authority to all instructors under Option 1. For example, you might not want new instructors to have independent study students in which case you could designate all but new instructors the authority to approve students to enroll in IS sections.
