If you have served in the Armed Forces, you may be eligible to receive credit for the military course work that you have completed. UW-Stevens Point grants credit for military course work when it has been reviewed by the American Council on Education (ACE) and when ACE recommends that credit be granted at the upper-division baccalaureate level. UWSP does not grant credit for courses with ACE credit recommendations at the associate degree or lower-division baccalaureate level, for course work that is military-specific in nature, or for military occupational specialties (MOS’s). Please note, therefore, that we do not award credit for basic training, as it is considered to be at the lower-division baccalaureate level.
If you believe you may have earned college credit through your
experience in the Armed Forces, we suggest that you have an official
military record sent directly to the UWSP Admissions Office. We will
accept any of the following three documents:
(1) Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System (ARTS Transcript). This transcript documents military training and experience and is available to Regular Army enlisted active-duty personnel; veterans with basic active service dates falling on or after October 1, 1981; Army National Guard - enlisted personnel and veterans on the active rolls as of January 1, 1993; with pay entry basic dates/basic active service dates falling on or after October 1, 1981; and to Army Reserve enlisted personnel and veterans on the active rolls as of April 1, 1997 with pay entry basic dates/basic active service dates falling on or after October 1, 1981. You may obtain a transcript request form from your Army education center counselor, or you may write directly to AARTS Operations Center, 415 McPherson Avenue, Ft. Leavenworth, KS 66027-1373, and include your name, basic active service date, social security number, ETS, daytime phone number, current mailing address and signature.
(2) DD 295, Application for the Evaluation of Learning Experiences During Military Service. This is available to active-duty service members, reservists, and National Guard members from military education officers. The form must be certified by an authorized commissioned officer or his/her designee in order to be official.
(3) DD Form 214, Armed Forces of the United States Report of
Transfer or Discharge. If you do not have a copy, one can be
obtained, together with other in-service training records, from the
National Personnel Records Center (Military Personnel Records), 9700
Page Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63132-5100. You may request service
records by submitting U.S. Government Standard Form 180, which is
available from a state veterans affairs office, the Veterans
Administration or the National Personnel Records Center.
After you have submitted the appropriate documentation to the UWSP Admissions Office, we will review your military course work and inform you of what credit (if any) you will receive.
If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact: Cheryl Kawleski, Admissions Counselor, Admissions Office, UW-Stevens Point, Stevens Point, WI 54481; telephone 715-346-2441.
