Transcript Information

What is the difference between an official and an unofficial transcript?

The main difference is that an official transcript typically reflects a higher level of authentication and a reduced opportunity for someone to alter the record. We use special safety paper and it includes the registrar's signature. It is most acceptable as official if it goes directly from UWSP to the other school or business rather than passing through the student's hands. Some places may accept an official transcript that is given to the student in a sealed envelope if the student sends it to them unopened. Some places may even accept a faxed copy in place of an official record. You should make sure a fax is acceptable before paying the charge to have a faxed copy sent.

How can I get a copy of my unofficial transcripts?

Students may get an unofficial transcript by coming in to the Registration and Records Office, 101 SSB. It is printed on plain paper and stamped "Unofficial transcript. Issued to the student". There is no charge for this record. Unofficial transcripts cannot be mailed or faxed. This is a convenience we provide for local students.

Can a transcript be mailed to the student?

Yes, however, it does say "Issued to the Student" on the transcript.

If I am picking up my transcript from Registration and Records, what will I need?

You will need a picture ID.

Can I have someone else pick up my transcript for me?

Yes, but you will have to let us know that at the time that the transcripts are ordered. The person picking it up will also need to have a picture id.
