Using
only a few typefaces that are compatible with the logo and signature establishes
consistency and visual unity in printed and electronic documents produced throughout
the university.
While other typeface (fonts) may be used for artistic design elements, two typefaces
have been recommended as the primary identification typefaces for UWSP when
used for print publication. The serif font is Times New Roman and the
sans serif is Franklin Gothic. When used in conjunction with the university
logo or signature, they complement the visual identity system. Both typefaces
are suitable for a great variety of reproduction methods and materials and have
good readability in all sizes. You may use both fonts in the same publication
if you wish to have one font for headings and the other for body copy.
In general, san serif fonts (Franklin Gothic) are more acceptable in headlines,
charts, captions, etc. Serif fonts (Times New Roman) have better readability
in large areas of text.
These fonts are part of the standard campus computer load for all PCs.
Mac computers should use Post Script fonts such as Franklin Gothic or
Helvetica and Times that are usually in the standard Mac/Quark
load and are very similar to the PC fonts.
