Minitab v13 - Nonparametric Statistics
The Minitab Project is available. It contains the following data:
Using Column N Comments Cell
CountsTabC1 2 The 4 observed cell counts
in tabular form.TabCol2 2 Raw
DataCatCode 74 Dummy codes for categories tried
(1=3 or less, 2=4 to 6).FreqCode 74 Dummy codes for frequency of use
(1=less than 3/week, 2=3+).
Chi Square - two variable (with observed cell counts)
Use the "Chi-Square Test..." command off of the "Stat, Tables" menu. That is:
That will take you to the following dialog box:
![]()
Type in the relevant "Columns containing the table:". The output would look like this:
Chi-square Test: C1, C2 Expected counts are printed below observed counts
C1 C2 Total
1 26 6 32
18.59 13.412 17 25 42
24.41 17.59Total 43 31 74
Chi-Sq = 2.949 + 4.091 + 2.247 + 3.117 = 12.404
DF = 1, P-Value = 0.000
Chi Square - two variable (with raw data)
Use the "Cross Tabulation..." command off of the "Stat, Tables" menu. That is:
That will take you to the following dialog box:
Type in (or double click on) the "Classification variables:", then choose "Row percents" (or column). Make sure "counts" is unchecked since checking "Chi-square analysis" will give us the counts anyway. Since it is also helpful to see the expected cell frequencies, choose the radio button that says "Above and expected count". The fields of the dialogs from the "Summaries..." and "Options..." buttons should be blank. Pressing "OK" will give the following output:
