Homework - Analysis of Variance - Two-Way
DIRECTIONS: Be sure to show the necessary calculations to back up your answers and show all work neatly. Use the six step procedure shown in class for any hypothesis tests. Attach Minitab output where appropriate and do mark it up to clearly indicate the relevant material in the output.
Essay
- Make up an example of a two-way factorial design. Indicate what the IVs are (include their levels as well as whether they are between or within group variables), the DV(s), and the number of groups in the experiment. Describe and graph the outcome (i.e., significant effects, if any) you might expect if you were to do the experiment. Note that you just need to make up the means (i.e., use hypothetical data) for the groups, not the individual scores.
Multiple Choice
- The most IMPORTANT advantage of the factorial design is that it
a. is more efficient than a design with one IV.
b. provides greater control of error variance.
c. provides information about the interactions that occur among variables.
d. provides for increased generality of the results.
- In a 5x4 between groups ANOVA, there are _____ unique treatment combinations or groups within the experiment.
a. 2
b. 4
c. 5
d. 9
e. 20
Problem
- This is a problem from the last assignment with a twist, that is, you have learned that the first three subjects in each group are female (coded as a 1) and the rest are male (coded as a 2).
