City house raided, crack cocaine seized
SPJ - 7/1/97
Two people were in custody and crack cocaine was confiscated after area law enforcement agencies raided a home on Strongs Ave. Monday night.
At about 10:47 p.m., the Stevens Point Police Dept. executed a search at a residence in the 2100 block of Strongs Ave. after the Central Wisconsin Multi-Jurisdictional Enforcement Drug Task Force obtained a warrant, authorities said. The department's emergency services squad was deployed to conduct an entry and assist in the execution of the search warrant.
Officers took 2 suspects, both who are currently on probation, into custody and seized about a ½ oz of cocaine and crack cocaine, authorities said. Several citizen telephone calls to police led to the investigation and subsequent search warrant. Police conducted surveillance of the home, and undercover agents made several drug buys at the residence, according to a press release issued this morning.
Police and community officials are working together to totally eliminate any illegal or illicit activity in any city neighborhood, Stevens Point Police Dept. officials said.
Residents are encouraged to forward information concerning drug sales, the appearance of drug trafficking or inappropriate behavior to the police so appropriate action can be taken to properly identify trouble spots.
City resources, such as the Community Housing Authority, Inspection Dept., Parks Dept., Fire Dept. and police will work together to curtail drug activity in the community, authorities said.
