State students say they use alcohol
AP - 10/2/91
Sixty-three percent of WI HS students who participated in a survey said they use alcohol, and 43% said they had 5 or more drinks on at least one occasion during the preceding 30 days.
The figures based on interviews with 1,027 students were listed in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
Only NY listed a higher figure for alcohol use, at 64%. Forty-seven percent of the students in Oklahoma and 45% in New Mexico said they had five or more drinks on one occasion during that period.
Other figures concerning WI contained in the survey were one-third of the students saying they smoked cigarettes, 10% saying they used marijuana, 10% saying they used smokeless tobacco and 1% reporting taking cocaine 30 days prior to the survey.
The results of the report were made part of the first progress report on the status of National Education Goals released this week.
