Independent Study Resources

Like many of the psychology faculty members at UWSP, I actively involve students in my research. As every currently enrolled psychology student is encouraged to become involved in research, UWSP students who wish to work in areas associated with my research interests should feel free to contact me. Most projects operate on a three semester plan (as described below).

Study Construction Projects

A small team of students identify a research topic, read and discuss background readings on the topic, write a literature review and complete research proposal.

This is generally the type of project used for students who are getting involved in research for their first semester. It is typically offered as 2 credits of PSYC 312 (Research Practicum) or PSYC 399 (Directed Study).

The following resources are most relevant to the study construction projects:

Study Implementation Projects

The small team continues working on the project by implementing the study, collecting and analyzing the data, and reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses of the study.

This is generally the type of project used for students who are staying involved in research for a second semester. It is typically offered as 2 credits of PSYC 312 (Research Practicum) or PSYC 399 (Directed Study).

The following resources are most relevant to the study implementation projects:

Study Analysis Projects

The small team finalizes a project by and analyzing the data from a study and by writing a research presentation. Often, this semester results in a local or regional conference presentation.

This is generally the type of project used for students who are completing research in a third semester. It is typically offered as 2 credits of PSYC 312 (Research Practicum) or PSYC 399 (Directed Study).

The following resources are most relevant to the study analysis projects:
