Research

Prof. Blakeman's research focuses on constitutional law, religion and politics, and federalism. His new book (co-authored with Chris Banks of Kent State Univ.) is titled The Supreme Court and the New Federalism: From the Rehnquist to the Roberts Court, published by Rowman & Littlefield.
Prof. Blakeman has published several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on law, religion, and the judicial process. He is the author of The Bible in the Park: Federal District Courts, Religious Speech and the Public Forum (Akron, 2005). Read the Law and Politics Book Review here. He is also a co-editor of The American Constitutional Experience (Kendall Hunt, 3rd ed, 2012).

About

Prof. Blakeman grew up in southeastern Kentucky in the heart of Appalachia. While he's lost his hillbilly twang, he retains his Alvin York outlook on life. Prof. Blakeman loves to fish and from time to time tries to advise and coach the UWSP Men's Rugby Club. He's a former rugby player himself, having played for Wake Forest Univ., Univ. of Glasgow, Hampstead (North London), and the infamous Waco Geezers (Waco, Texas). He advised and coached the Men's Rugby Club at Baylor University, and helped coach them to the USA Rugby Collegiate Division II National Championship in 2001. Blakeman is an IRB certified rugby referee with degenerating eyesight and most recently refereed in London with the London Society of Rugby Referees. He previously taught at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and has been at UWSP since 2003
