EQUIPMENT INFORMATION
Wisconsin Association of Physics Teachers
2001 Annual Meeting
University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point
October 26 - 27, 2001
Paper presentations will take place in the College of Natural
Resources (CNR) building on the UWSP campus. For the benefit of those
planning to present papers at this meeting, we describe below the equipment we
have in the lecture room (CNR 170).
The following devices will be on hand: Overhead projector, slide
projector, VCR player (VHS format only), laserdisk player, and document
camera. For computer-based presentations, we have a ceiling-mounted
projector that has a default resolution of 800 x 600 pixels and can, if need be,
be set to 1024 x 768 pixels. If you wish to connect your laptop computer
directly to the ceiling-mounted projector, then bring a cable with a standard
SVGA (15-pin) connector. (If your laptop is a Macintosh of older vintage,
your cable's connector may require a special adaptor.)
The following are the characteristics of the computer in this
lecture room:
Gateway Pentium III 600 MHz, 256 MB of RAM, running Windows 98. Several
gigabytes of storage space are available on the hard disk (but please let us
know, when you fill out the Abstract Submission
Form, whether you wish to use any
of it). The computer has bays for a 3.5-inch diskette, CD-ROM, DVD, and
250-MB ZIP disk. A sound card is installed and speakers are
connected. The following software is installed:
* Microsoft Office 2000 (including PowerPoint). If you plan to display
images in PowerPoint, be aware that JPEGs load faster than bitmaps and are
therefore preferable.
* Plug-ins: Quicktime, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, Shockwave, Flash,
Adobe Acrobat, LiveAudio.
* Browsers: Internet Explorer 5.0 and Netscape 4.7
Advice to presenters: Technology can fail.
Please come prepared with a back-up plan (or alternative media) that you can
press into service if
your preferred technology malfunctions. If the computer
crashes, you will still be able to display your visuals if you have prepared transparencies to put on the overhead
projector!
