Friends and Colleagues,

The University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point is pleased to be hosting the annual meeting of the Wisconsin Association of Physics Teachers on Friday, October 26, and Saturday, October 27, 2001.  We hope you will be able to attend the meeting to present a paper, participate in the workshops, or just talk physics!

Please submit the Registration Form by postal mail by October 12, 2001.  If you wish to present a paper, please submit the Abstract Submission Form by October 5.  If you need overnight accommodations, it is recommended that you make your reservations by October 5.  For driving directions, maps, and other information, please follow the links at the top of this page.

The banquet will be held Friday evening at Sentry World in Stevens Point, located approximately one mile north of the UWSP Science Building.  Our banquet speaker this year is Dr. Thomas D. Rossing, Distinguished Research Professor at Northern Illinois University. The title of Dr. Rossing's talk is "Teaching the Physics of Music". Dr. Rossing has authored over 300 publications (including 15 books, 9 U.S. and 11 foreign patents) mainly in acoustics, magnetism, and physics education.  He is a fellow of American Physical Society, the Acoustical Society of America, and the AAAS, and has been awarded both the silver medal in musical acoustics (Acoustical Society of America) and the Robert A. Millikan medal (AAPT).  He has been a guest researcher at Stanford, M.I.T., U.C.-San Diego, and at several universities in Germany, Sweden, England, Holland, and Australia.  In addition to musical acoustics and psychoacoustics, Dr. Rossing's professional interests include vibrational analysis, magnetic levitation, and teaching physics and the arts.

There will be a short business meeting following the luncheon on Saturday.

Nominations are still being accepted for WAPT awards in the following catagories:

* Lifetime Achievement
* Service to and/ or Excellence in teaching physics at the Elementary and/or High School level
* Service to and/or Excellence in teaching physics at the College or University level
