Final Exam - Physics 204

The final exam will be given as follows:
  1. You may prepare an 8-½ × 11 sheet to use in the exam. You may write, laserprint, photocopy, or paste anything you want on both sides of the sheet, whatever you feel will help you on the exam. I suggest you handwrite the sheet, because simply preparing such a sheet will force you to go over all the material of the semester, and writing concepts and equations by hand will help you to remember them better.

  2. The exam will be held in room SCI B104 and B112 on Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at 12:30pm

  3. You may work on the exam for the full 120 minutes.

  4. The exam is worth 200 points and is about 50% cumulative. It is structured as follows:

    1. Part I: Atomic, Molecular, and Nuclear Physics (Chapters 28-30) 80 points
      1. Problems (3 questions, 34 points)
      2. True/False (8 questions, 16 points)
      3. Multiple Choice (10 questions, 30 points)

    2. Part II: Cumulative (Chapters 16-30) 120 points
      1. Multiple Choice (30 questions, 4 points each)
      2. Questions cover only those topics previously covered in homework assignments and midterm exams. There are approximately two questions per chapter. About one third of these are simple numerical questions, two thirds are conceptual. Six of these questions are from the last three chapters, so if you count these 24 points with the 80 points above you can see that about half the exam is on the last three chapters, the other half on the previous twelve chapters.
