Dr. H’s Reality Check:  His Airness Returns

On the news the other night, I heard that Michael Jordan was returning to the NBA, the National Basketball Association.  One of Jordan’s Most Famous Dunks came during a Contest in the mid 1980’s.  He ran about the length of the floor, jumped from the free throw line  and dunked the ball.  He was in the air for about one second.  The distance from the free throw line to a point on the floor under the basket is 15 ft (approx 3m).

a.) What was Jordan’s Launch Speed when he initially jumped?

b) At what angle did he jump?
