Service-Learning Teaching Colloquium

Friday, February 16th 2007

The goal of this day-long colloquium was to familiarize UWSP Faculty and Academic Staff with the positive pedagogical benefits of service-learning. While service-learning is already occurring on our campus with considerable success, we hope to provide information and resources to allow more people to integrate service-learning into their courses.

This teaching colloquium aims to provide background information about what service-learning is, the benefits of service-learning (in terms of learning outcomes), as well as information about how to formulate suitable learning objectives, how to design and plan service projects, and how to integrate meaningful assignments for students.

Community Partners will also be invited to attend and participate in this conference, providing the opportunity for members of the UWSP campus to meet and begin collaborating with our Community Partners.

This teaching colloquium was supported by:

  • The Center for Academic Excellence and Student Engagement (CAESE)
  • The Office of the Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
  • Generous grants from UPDC Curriculum Development & OPID UW System
