Types of Positions

 

 

OFFICE SUPPORT

Office support classifications most frequently used at UWSP are Academic Department Associate, Office Operations Associate, Operations Program Associate, Purchasing Associate, University Services Associate and University Services Program Associate.

The Office Support exam is usually given every month.   The register established from this exam will be used to fill vacancies in all entry level positions (University Services Associate 1); intermediate positions (Academic Department Associate (A), Office Operations Associate, Operations Program Associate (A), Purchasing Associate, University Services Associate 2, University Services Program Associate (A) and, advanced positions (Program Assistant Advanced - Conf.)

 

 

FINANCIAL SPECIALIST

Examinations for the Financial Specialist 1 & 2  are scheduled once or twice each year on a statewide basis at the regional testing centers. Scheduled tests are announced in the WiscJobs Bulletin.

 

 

LIBRARY SERVICES ASSISTANT

Examinations for the Library Services Assistant-Senior and Advanced are scheduled once or twice each year on a statewide basis at the regional testing centers. Scheduled tests are announced in the WiscJobs Bulletin.

 

 

CUSTODIAL

UWSP continually accepts applications for entry level Custodian positions.  They may be full or part-time positions and may require shift, weekend, or evening work hours.  Starting salary is $10.89 per hour and includes a benefit package.  These positions also require a criminal background check.  

 

No examination is given.  Applications received by Personnel Services are submitted to Madison and are ranked by a computer generated random ranking process.  Applicants are notified of their rank, which is good for approximately six months.  A new job announcement will be listed in the WiscJobs Bulletin and and a new application must be submitted to continue eligibility after six months.

 

To be eligible for Custodian vacancies, submit an Application for State Employment to Personnel Services, Room 133, Old Main Building. 

 

 

MAINTENANCE, GROUNDS & SECURITY

Most often, in these categories, UWSP hires at the entry level, which is  Power Plant Operator,  Facilities Repair Worker, Facilities Maintenance Specialist, Groundskeeper or Security Officer 1.

 

Civil Service exams for these classifications are scheduled once or twice each year on a statewide basis at the regional testing centers. Scheduled tests are announced in the WiscJobs Bulletin.

 

 

BUILDING TRADES and CRAFTS

UWSP employs carpenters, electricians, painters and plumbers. These positions require appropriate, approved training and/or experience. These positions are announced in the WiscJobs Bulletin and the Civil Service exam is given once each year.

 

 

OTHER PERMANENT POSITIONS

Laboratory Preparation Technician, Electronics Technician, Mechanician, Nurse Clinician and Medical Technologist positions require special skills acquired by training and/or previous experience. Vacancies are announced in the WiscJobs Bulletin.

 

Professional and paraprofessional positions are in specialized fields such as accounting, personnel, computer programming, or in supervisory positions (custodial supervisor, maintenance supervisor or clerical supervisor.)  Vacancies in these positions are announced in the WiscJobs Bulletin.
