Stipends/Honorariums
The word
“stipend” (and honorarium) is used in various ways by various agencies – please
do not assume
payment can be processed in a specific manner – depending on the
specific purpose of the payment, it may or may not be taxable, and
may or may not be a payroll transaction.

As you can see from the list below - the
definition of a stipend is NOT always clear!

a sum of
money allotted on a regular basis; usually for some specific
purpose

made to an individual under a fellowship or training grant in

money per credit hour set by the General Assembly to be held in
trust for and paid on behalf of an eligible undergraduate
student pursuant to the College Opportunity Fund.

The salary
of a University officer.

allowance for living expenses. Examples of these expenses
include, but are not limited to, rent, utilities, incidentals,
etc.
