Notes on vehicles are not honored at meters or in lieu of a permit.
• Where is the Parking Services office and when is it open?
The Parking Services office is located at 124 George Stien Building (on Maria Dr., just north of the smoke stack).
The office is open from 7:45am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. After hours, you can leave a message on the phone or by e-mail and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
• When is parking in the university lots enforced?
Permit areas are restricted to permit holders from 2am-7pm, Monday through Friday, except lots H & U, which are restricted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Permit areas are open from 7pm-2am Monday through Friday and all day on Saturday and Sunday.
Meters need to be plugged from 6am-7pm, Monday through Friday. Meters are open from 7 pm-2 am, Monday through Friday and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Parking is prohibited in metered areas from 2 am-6 am, Monday through Friday, which means no overnight parking.
Parking in disabled stalls, fire zones, UW vehicle stalls, specifically reserved stalls, loading zones, and no parking areas (including the grass and sidewalks) is restricted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• I am disabled, where can I park?
Persons with disabilities can park in the disabled stalls across campus and at any parking meter WITHOUT plugging the meter if a valid state handicap tag is displayed, the vehicle has disabled license plates, or the vehicle has a university-issued disabled permit. Disabled tags and plates are not honored in permit areas without a valid UWSP permit.
• I brought a vehicle to move in to my room, but will not be having one here during the year, what can I do?
Lot Q, and ONLY Lot Q, is open for the first five (5) days of classes both the fall and spring semesters. Vehicles do not need to have a permit to use this lot during this time.
• Where can I park my moped?
Mopeds can park by the bike racks on campus without contacting parking services. Mopeds need to have a moped license plate. Any cycle with a motorcycle plate MUST have a permit and MUST park in a motorcycle stall.
• Are the lots enforced during Summer and Winterim?
All lots are enforced year round and regular regulations are in effect anytime classes are in session, including summer and winterim.
When no classes are in session:
- there is open parking in the student lots (J, P, and Q) and student/staff lots (T and W).
- vehicles with any faculty/staff permit can use lots D, E, R, and V.
- faculty/staff lots A, H, K, S, and Z are restricted to permit holders.
- meters are enforced under regular regulations.
All faculty/staff permit lots are restricted to valid decal holders beginning seven (7) days prior to the start of classes for the fall semester. Student permits must be displayed by the first day of classes.
• What are the parking regulations for the city streets?
Parking on the city streets is enforced by the Stevens Point Police Department, and all questions need to be directed to that agency (715-346-1500). Signs on the streets explain the regulations for those areas, but differ by location. There is no parking on the streets from 2am-6am, which means no overnight parking. Citations issued by the City also need to be resolved with that agency, 1515 Strongs Ave.; Stevens Point, WI 54481
• The complete Parking Procedures & Regulations are located here.
• How do I pay a citation?
Citations may be paid in person at the Parking Services Office (124 George Stien), through the U.S. Mail (proper postage required), though Campus Mail (no postage needed), or by placing them in the PURPLE fine boxes located across campus. University fine boxes are emptied on weekdays. The yellow fine boxes are for citations issued by the Stevens Point Police Department.
Citations will escalate if not paid within 21 days of the date of issue.
• How do I appeal a citation?
Appeal forms are available from the Parking Services Office, however, the citation must be paid prior to filing an appeal. The appeal is then heard by the Appeals Committee, which is made up of university faculty, staff, and students. This committee can either uphold, reduce, or void the citation. If need be, a refund will be issued.
• I am using a different car than usual, how do I register it?
Persons with window permits can call Parking Services and register the temporary car for a single day, acquire a temporary permit (at no charge) from Parking Services for an extended period, or purchase a second decal from Parking Services if the car is used regularly and registered to you or your family.
Persons with hanging permits need to merely transfer that hangtag to the temporary vehicle and need not contact Parking Services. Temporary permits and additional vehicle permits are not available to persons with hanging permits.
• I went to park in my assigned lot and it was full, what should I do?
If your assigned lot is full, you can park in another permit lot (faculty-staff in faculty-staff lots and students in student lots). Then call Parking Services to report the problem and prevent a citation from being issued.
• I work at night, do I have to pay the full permit price?
The university provides the "N" decal for night staff. This permit is good from 10:30 pm-7:00 am in any permit area accept H & U. It is not valid at meters. The cost for the year is $29.85
• When can I apply for parking?
Student parking applications for the following academic year are accepted beginning May 2. Student assignments are strictly first come, first serve. After all lots are full, a waiting list is created. When space becomes available we assign from this list.
• I will only be attending UWSP for one semester, do I have to pay the full permit price?
Students needing a permit for the fall semester only need to pay the full permit price. At the end of the fall semester, the permit can be returned to Parking Services and a 40% refund of the purchase price will be issued.
Students needing a permit for the spring semester only MUST apply early. Parking permits are assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Example: a student who is studying abroad the first semester and will be on campus second semester. The parking permit will be held in the Parking Services Office for pick-up after the end of the first semester. The permit price is 60% of the annual price.
• I received a permit but no longer need it, what can I do?
The unused permit can be returned to the Parking Services Offices before the start of classes for a full refund.
• I have retired or am retiring from the university and want to come back occasionally, where can I park?
The university provides a permit for retirees at no charge. This permit is valid in all university permit lots except D, G, and Z. The permit is good for life, and is a hangtag that can be moved to other vehicles.
• How much are the meters and what is the maximum parking time?
University meters are $0.50 per hour ($0.25 for 1/2 hour). 12-hour meters are located in Lot X; 4-hour meters in Lots R and V; and 2-hour meters in Lots F, F-West, G, and Z. See map.
• I parked at a meter and it was malfunctioning (e.g. did not accept coins, screen is blank, screen says failed), what should I do?
You can continue to park at the meter, but you MUST call Parking Services (346-3900) and give the meter number, problem, and your license plate number to prevent a citation from being issued. If your meter feeder card malfunctioned, you MUST then plug the meter.
• What is the Meter Feeder Card?
The Meter Feeder Card is about the size of a student ID or drivers license and can be used to plug meters without using change. These pre-paid cards can be purchased/recharged at Parking Services in the amounts of $5, $10, $20, $30, or $40. This card is the same as cash. Refunds are not issued on lost or stolen cards.
• I only have classes in the evening, are there any special accommodations?
The university provides the "L" decal especially for evening students. This decal allows the student to park in any permit lot (except G, H & U) after 3pm. The cost for the L decal is $61.70 (including tax) for the year and provides the best deal for your money. The decal does not allow you to park at meters, in disabled stalls, fire zones, or no parking areas. It is also valid ONLY after 3pm.
• I have classes later in the evening and don't want a permit, what can I do?
Permit lots are restricted to permit holders until 7pm, Monday through Friday. A permit is required to use these lots. Meters are enforced until 7pm.
Visitor information has its own page, located here.
• I locked my keys in my vehicle or my vehicle broke down in one of the lots, what should I do?
Call Parking Services (346-3900) to explain the problem and to prevent a citation. Office personnel will also give you further information, which may include an additional fee. The university cannot unlock vehicles due to liability issues.
• How do I report damage to my car that occurred while parked on campus?
Any damage to your vehicle should be reported to UWSP Protective Services, 346-3456. The university assumes no responsibility for the damage.
If you notice a physical hazard in a parking lot that may pose a problem (such as glass or physically damaged meters), please contact Parking Services at 346-3900 or 346-2188.
