Chancellor George and Italian chemist co-author "Fundamentals in Chemical Physics"

Thomas F. George, chancellor and professor of chemistry and physics at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, has co-authored a textbook with Italian chemist, Franco Battaglia, associate professor of chemical physics at Terza University of Rome (Italy).

"Fundamentals in Chemical Physics," published by Kluwer Academic Publishers of Dordrecht, Netherlands, is a 326-page textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students. Its foundations consist of understanding chemical phenomena in terms of the most fundamental laws of physics.

The authors have taken an individual approach to their presentation of the essence of a connected theory rather than mere explanations of apparently unrelated facts. The textbook contains chapters on classical and quantum physics, thermodynamics, quantum chemistry, chemical reactions, states of aggregation and molecular spectroscopy. Students in the fields of chemistry, physics, engineering, materials science and biology will have interest in this work.

Fundamentals in Chemical Physics is the second collaborative effort between George and Battaglia. In 1990 they co-authored a textbook entitled "Notes in Classical and Quantum Physics." In addition, during the past three decades, George has authored or co-authored 540 research articles in his field of study and has edited or co-edited eight books/volumes. He has written more than 30 research articles on laser/materials/chemical physics since his tenure at UWSP began in July 1996.

The price for Fundamentals in Chemical Physics is $154.

A publisher in Japan is planning to publish the book in Japanese.
