UWSP Foundation reports $1.4 million dollars in income
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Foundation has reported income of $1,410,000 for the past fiscal year, a 50 percent increase over 1997.
Foundation President Jim Anderson said he and the other board members are pleased that this significant gain was accomplished within a balanced budget at a cost of 21 cents per dollar raised.
"One of the reasons that performance improved so much this year was one unusually generous bequest of $300,000," said Foundation Executive Director Bruce Froehlke. "This gift emphasizes the importance of people who value this university including UWSP in their estate planning."
According to Anderson, the foundations long-standing commitment to serving people has been proven once again by its $270,000 in scholarship support to more than 600 UWSP students. This includes $32,000 in Alumni Honors Scholarships.
The foundation also supports student research, grants to faculty members and programs such as the upcoming teaching-learning conference organized by Provost/ Vice Chancellor Bill Meyer. The foundation funds special events, operating expenses for alumni and foundation, programs such as Becoming an Outdoorswoman, and the Alumnus publication. Altogether, the foundation channeled nearly $1 million dollars to the campus last year.
"Strong financial support from our alumni, friends and corporations is an important factor in earning UWSP top rankings from publications like US News & World Report and Kiplingers Personal Finance Magazine," said Chancellor Tom George.
"Without question," George observed, "charitable giving has substantially improved the universitys ability to serve people. Today, state support provides one third of the universitys operating costs. Generous giving is essential to preserving excellence.
"There are literally hundreds of people on this campus who can tell you this from first-hand experience. The foundation and the university are grateful to everyone who helped us last year," George said.
