Aquatic classes offered
For
adults:
The Special Needs Aquatic Program (SNAP) at the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point will offer classes for adults this winter.
The classes are designed for adults with arthritis, older adults looking for a
low impact workout or adults with disabilities. The session will be held from
Jan. 24 through March 17 and costs $40. Classes are held twice a week on Monday
and Thursday.
The 45-minute classes are held in the therapeutic pool in the Health Enhancement
Center on the UWSP campus, adjacent to the Quandt Fieldhouse on Fourth Avenue.
The Basic Aquatic Exercise class will be held from 9-9:45 a.m. The Arthritis
Foundation Aquatic Program classes will be held at 10 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and a new
class will begin at 5:25 p.m. The Deep Water Exercise class will be held at 8
a.m.
For infants and toddlers:
Registration for winter swimming classes for
children ages six months to five years, will be by mail only, on a first come,
first served basis at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Special Needs Aquatic Program (SNAP) classes are for children of all abilities
accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children may gain an initial positive water
experience, learn safety skills in and around water, plus have fun. A five-week
session will be held from February 9 through March 9.
Classes for infant and toddlers, six months to three years, will be held
Wednesdays from 4:50 to 5:20 p.m.
Preschool classes for toddlers, three to five years of age, will be held
Wednesday evenings from 5:25 to 6 p.m.
Early registration is advised, as program space is limited. The session costs
$30. All classes are held at the therapeutic pool in the Health Enhancement
Center (HEC) and will be taught by American Red Cross certified water safety
instructor Joanne Suomi.
