Sustainable forest management workshop on selecting trees for woodland owners
Have you ever wondered which tree is the right tree for your property? The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) will be offering a workshop on "How to Select and Plant Trees" from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 12, at the UWSP Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center in Stevens Point. This workshop is designed to answer some of the most common questions that you might have about selecting the right tree to plant, how to plant a tree, and the care and maintenance of newly planted trees.
This workshop is one in a series of seminars that will be held in the Stevens Point area throughout the year. According to John DuPlissis, forestry outreach specialist with the College of Natural Resources, the Master Woodland Steward Program combines classroom instruction and outdoor experiences to teach participants the basics of forest ecology, forest management techniques, managing for wildlife habitat, business decision and planning tools, as well as sources for technical and financial assistance for woodland owners. Whether you are interested in managing your woodlands for profit or pleasure, you can gain valuable skills and knowledge that will help you become a better steward of your woodlands.
The cost to attend this workshop is $10. For more information and to pre-register online, visit the Web at www.uwsp.edu/forestry/outreach/mws.aspx. Registration also will be available at the door. Contact DuPlissis at (715) 346-4128, (715) 346-4038 (fax), or by e-mail at john.duplissis@uwsp.edu.
