UWSP students downloading music legally through the Ruckus Network

Students at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) are contracting by the hundreds with Ruckus.com for free and legal music and video services.

"Over 2,000 UWSP students have registered with Ruckus and we hope to expand those numbers," said Colleen Andrews, student technology coordinator. "Our campus remains vigilant in promoting legal music and video downloading as we’ve had to deal directly with this student issue in the past."

According to Andrews, over the past academic year about a dozen UWSP students have had to face the music over illegal downloads.

"Overall our students are beginning to fully grasp the legal and ethical questions surrounding illegal music and/or video downloading. All of our student cases were settled out-of-court," said Andrews.

"Ruckus is providing a valuable service to our students and the campus," continued Andrews. "This service is not only open to our resident hall students but also to our off-campus students. Equally important is that this service is legal while making music and videos available to our student body."

UWSP's Student Government Association, Residence Hall Association, Office of Information Security and ResNet Office have all worked together to help students learn about Ruckus.com.
