Newsboys, Australian Christian pop band, will perform at UWSP this spring

NewsboysThe Australian-based Christian pop band Newsboys will headline a four-band concert at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday, April 11.

The performance, sponsored by Centertainment Productions, will be held at the Quandt Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. The cost is $27 per ticket with a $2 service charge. Reserved seating only tickets are now on sale at University Information and Tickets in the Dreyfus University Center concourse. Tickets are also available online at https://tickets.uwsp.edu or by calling (715) 346-4100 or (800) 838-3378.

The Newsboys formed in Mooloolaba, Australia, in 1985 and made their first U.S. tour two years later. It wasnt until their 1992 album, "Not Ashamed," was released that the band gained notice in the Christian music scene. Currently based in Nashville, drummer and lead vocalist Peter Furler is the one constant member still going strong since the band first formed. Joining Furler at Quandt Fieldhouse will be Jeff Frankenstein on keyboards, bass and backup vocals; Duncan Phillips on percussion; and Paul Colman on guitar, bass, and backup vocals.

This past November they released their newest work, "The Greatest Hits." It features older band hits like "Shine," "Not Ashamed" and "Reality," as well as newer standards including "Wherever We Go," "It Is You," "You Are My King" and others.

In addition to having a huge following both within and outside Christian pop music circles, the band has co-authored a book with Jim Laffoon, chief prophet of Every Nation Church. Furler and other band members belong to Every Nation.

Opening acts for the Newsboys will be Article One, Rush of Fools, and Newworldson.
