Ramsay elected to position with National Safety Council

Professor Jim Ramsay, Safety and Health Protection (SHP) coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP), has been elected vice chair of the National Safety Councils Health Care Section.

Upon completion of the two-year appointment, Ramsay will become chair of the Councils Health Care Section. The Council was founded in 1913 and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1953. It is the nations leading advocate for safety and health with a mission to "educate and influence society to adopt safety, health and environmental policies, practices, and procedures that prevent and mitigate human suffering and economic losses arising from preventable causes."

"Dr. Ramsay brings in depth of knowledge as well as strong leadership skills to the committee," said current chair, Dean Klatt. "His skills and safety knowledge are a welcome addition that will allow the group to serve the health care industry to a greater degree."

Ramsay has served seven years with the Health Care Section, six of those years spent as editor for the sections newsletter, "Safety Focus." A native of Appleton and UWSP alumnus, Ramsay (84) received his masters and doctoral degrees from UW-Madison. He also is a founding member of the Academics Practice Specialty in the American Society of Safety Engineers and a member of the Society for Public Health Education.
