Point graduate to join National Arborist Association
Tim Walsh, a graduate student in urban forestry at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP), has accepted a position as staff arborist for the National Arborist Association (NAA) in Manchester, N.H.
A 1994 UWSP College of Natural Resources graduate with a bachelors degree in urban forestry and forest management, Walsh will relocate to New Hampshire. His hometown is Minocqua.
As NAAs staff arborist, he will be an employment resource to students, member companies and other arborists regarding tree care standards and practice, specific tree care practices, regulatory compliance and safe work practices. In addition, he will represent the association at meetings and trade shows, as well as write articles and news releases for both internal and external publications. He officially joins the staff in July.
"Tim is a credit to both his alma mater and his profession," said UWSP forestry professor Robert Miller. "His involvement with our Student Society of Arboriculture and this opportunity to share his knowledge and expertise with future arborists is a real testament to his work. We wish him well as he moves from academia to the business of forest stewardship."
Walsh plans to finish his masters work at UWSP under the leadership of professor Miller. His areas of expertise include urban forestry, forest management, biology and resource management. His outstanding career at UWSP earned him a Chancellors Leadership Award. An associate lecturer in forestry at UWSP, Walsh formerly owned and operated a tree care business in Central Wisconsin. He also is the director of the UWSP Student Society of Arboriculture and is a member of the Wisconsin Arborist Association and the International Society of Arboriculture.
