HaSEAAC’s annual conference, "Hmong in the Spotlight," to be held at UW-Stevens Point
The 15th annual Hmong and Southeast Asian American Club (HaSEAAC) conference at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will feature Hmong individuals who have made their mark in the media or performing arts professions.
The all-day conference, "Hmong in the Spotlight," takes place on Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., at the Laird Room in the Dreyfus University Center. Both the campus and the community are welcome. The event is free including lunch catered by the Happy Wok restaurant in Plover. Attendees are asked to pre-register online at
www.uwsp.edu/stuorg/haseaac by Wednesday, April 2."This year’s conference puts a spotlight on Hmong working in communication and/or in the performing arts," said Sue Kubley, academic counselor and HaSEAAC adviser. "It is a testament to the region’s Hmong community that any and all fields of endeavor can be achieved with hard work and a solid education."
Keynote speakers for the conference are Khang Vang and Elfy Xiong. Other guest Hmong speakers include Sandi Ci Moua, Julie Lee, Xai Lee, and Sai Lee. Workshops throughout the day will focus on learning more about Hmong success in entertainment and the communication arts.
A spring formal, "Music of My Heart, Feel the Beat," will follow in the evening from 7 p.m. to midnight in the Alumni Room in the Dreyfus University Center. Advance tickets are $12 for couples and $7 for singles and can be purchased by contacting Hlee Lor at hlor272@uwsp.edu. Tickets at the door are $14 for couples and $8 for singles.
