Prestigious Atlanta Falcons athletic training scholarship to Pointer
Scott Tauferner of Tigerton, a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, is one of eight students nationwide to receive the prestigious Jerry Rhea Sports Medicine Scholarship.
"Im honored to have been chosen for this national sports medicine scholarship," said Tauferner. "This timely scholarship will help reduce my overall student debt while allowing me to continue my studies."
Jerry Rhea was the head athletic trainer for the Atlanta Falcons Football Club for 25 years. The $5,000 scholarships are given to both undergraduate and graduate students studying sports medicine for the purposes of defraying the cost of higher education. A scholarship committee consisting of Atlanta Falcons athletic trainers, officers and/or board members of the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation, and Jerry Rhea or a member of his family chooses winners.
A senior majoring in athletic training and biology, Tauferner maintains a 3.55 grade point average overall. His future goals are to graduate this May and then seek employment in a clinic or university sports medicine outreach program. Tauferner, son of William and Cheryl Tauferner, is a 1997 graduate of Tigerton High School.
