UW-Stevens Point cadet chosen for overseas program
ROTC Cadet Courtney Clarksen of Two Rivers has been selected to represent the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Points ROTC and Army ROTC 2nd Brigade for this years George and Carol Olmstead Foundation Cadet Overseas Travel and Cultural Immersion Program.
Cadet Clarksen will represent Army ROTC for the states of Wisconsin, Upper Michigan and Northern Illinois.
The program provides a select group of ROTC students the opportunity to visit a country where English is not the primary language. This six-week travel program will commence this summer and will consist of a combination of formal briefings, conferences, research, educational tours, as well as visits to foreign military academies. The programs mission is to educate young future career military officers who exhibit potential to become future leaders for our nation.
"Cadet Clarksen is the first-ever UWSP recipient of this coveted honor," said Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Sliwicki, professor of military science. "This is a great opportunity for Courtney to get a flavor of living and serving our nation in a foreign country."
According to Sliwicki, Clarksen competed against cadets from 25 other campuses including UW-Madison, Notre Dame, Purdue University, Indiana University and others. Nominated by her UWSP ROTC superiors, she also provided a full narrative and academic records.
She is a graduate of Washington High School.
