University designates community ombudsman
Building better hometown relationships is the objective behind the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
’s designation of a new community relations liaison.Tom Miller, UWSP’s longtime senior communications specialist for government relations, will take on the role of "university point person" with local government and the newly formed Old Main Neighborhood Association.
"We’ve been building bridges within our community and I
’m pleased by the many signs of stronger relationships with our campus neighbors and within city government," noted Chancellor Linda Bunnell."We look forward to Tom serving as our ombudsman, to help direct concerns and questions to the appropriate university sources for answers and to help our students grow more involved in their city," Bunnell added.
Miller is on the staff of the University Relations and Communications office. Executive Director Stephen Ward said UWSP is committed to seeing Stevens Point
’s first neighborhood association flourish."The university fully supports the progress our neighbors are making as they come together as an organization and we
’re excited to be a part of it. Eventually, we’d like Stevens Point to be a model for all city-campus relationships in the UW System," Ward said.Miller is a graduate of Stevens Point Area Senior High School and attended UWSP before earning his degree from UW-Madison.
