"V-Day
celebrated at UWSP March 2, 3 and 6"
Womens History Month will be marked by several presentations during March at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Library.
On Friday, March 5, from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 107, Cathy Palmini of the UWSP Library, will discuss "Over Unknown Waters to Wisconsin," writings of women in the mid-1800s as they traveled across the Atlantic and the Great Lakes to settle in Wisconsin. "Homesickness, seasickness and even shipwrecks were the experiences of these women," Palmini says. The program includes descriptions of their experiences, readings from their writings and old photographs.
On Tuesday, March 9, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in Room 310, Theresa Kaminski of the UWSP History Department, will show the film "The Long Walk Home," starring Sissy Spacek and Whoopi Goldberg portraying a fictionalized account of the Montgomery bus boycott. There will be a question and answer session after the movie.
On Tuesday, March 18, from noon to 1 p. m. in the lobby, Judy Peplinski of English and the Teaching Learning Center, will read folk and fairy tales to show how the images of women have changed over time.
On Monday, March 29, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. in the lobby, the Shuvani Tribal Bellydancers, directed by Pam Luedtke of theatre and dance, will perform many styles of belly dancing as well as elements from classical Indian dance and Spanish flamenco.
The events will be sponsored by the Womens Studies Advisory Committee and the University Library. Light refreshments will be available.
