Poetry and art exhibition set for Womens History Month

University and community members are encouraged to submit writing and art work for a poetry and art exhibition titled, "The Elimination of All Forms of Violence Against Women," to be held in March at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

In recognition of Womens History Month, the Department of Foreign Languages, plus other departments and colleges will sponsor the exhibition, a panel discussion and a display of films and books. Guest speakers will be Professor Nela Rio, an Argentine-Canadian artist and writer, and Barbara Reynolds, a UNICEF representative in Nigeria.

Submissions of poetry and artwork should be related to the theme of eliminating violence against women. A contest will be held, with prizes for the top three poems and artworks. The winning and finalist pieces will be exhibited at the Edna Carlsten Art Gallery in March. Two poems may be entered per person and should be postmarked by January 31. Up to two pieces of original artwork entries, created in any media, should be entered by February 15.

Entry forms as well as information on sending in submissions is available at www.uwsp.edu/forlang/earmacan/index.htm.
