UWSP students spend semester interning in London

Ten student "pioneers" from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will spend the spring semester in London serving internships in businesses and agencies ranging from NBC News to a psychiatric unit.

This will be the first opportunity for UWSP students to spend a semester interning in London under a new program sponsored by International Programs (IP). It is anticipated by IP staff and UWSP faculty that this initial opportunity will lead to a thriving program of international internships for UWSP, according to Mark Koepke, IPs associate director.

IP staff and several academic departments have set up the arrangements through Professors John Mann and Leslie Zweigmann of Anglo American Education Services who arranged the placements and will work with the students while in London.

The student interns will lodge at International Students House with the traditional study abroad group. Some of the interns also will take classes with the semester abroad students. Jean Engebretsen, a senior sociology major from Farmington, Minn., who will intern at the Collingham Gardens Child and Family Psychiatric Unit, will serve as assistant to the faculty liaison.

Dean of Fine Arts and Communication Gerard McKenna and Chair of the Division of Communication Richard Ilkka will visit the interns next spring.
