Huntoon, Frieling perform in guest recital
Trombonist John Huntoon and pianist Randy Frieling, faculty members at Anderson University, Anderson, Ind., will perform in a guest recital at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 13 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The performance in Michelsen Hall, Fine Arts Center, is open to the public without charge. Huntoon also will lead a class for the UWSP Jazz Ensemble at 11 a.m. and a master class for trombone students from 1 to 3 p.m., both in Michelsen. Students from area schools are welcome to attend. The events are sponsored by the UWSP Music Department.
The program will include J.S. Bach�s "Suite III," Leopold Mozart�s "Concerto for Alto Trombone and Piano," Telemann�s "Sonata No. 6," and Vivaldi�s "Concerto in a minor."
Professor Frieling holds degrees from Calvin College, Indiana University and Ball State University.
Professor Huntoon, who holds degrees from Millikin University, Decatur, Ill., and Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, has played for artists such as Ray Charles, Sandi Patti, and the Moody Blues.
He is the director of low brass, brass ensembles and jazz ensemble at Anderson and serves as assistant director of the Anderson University Wind Ensemble. He is principal trombonist with the Anderson Symphony Orchestra and the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra.
Huntoon also has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Evansville Philharmonic and Busselli-Wallerab Jazz Orchestra. He co-founded and plays trombone with the Keynote Brass Quintet and can be heard on its recording, "Reflections." He has been featured on other recordings, including "Festive Music for a Community of Faith" with Ted Gibboney. Huntoon recently traveled with Gibboney to Freiberg, Germany, to perform as guest artist on the St. Mary�s Cathedral Concert Series.
Huntoon has written literature reviews for the International Trombone Association Journal and is an artist affiliate for Benge Musical Instruments.
