Charles Young has original works premiered

Charles Young, associate professor of music at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, recently had two of his original works premiered, "Legends of The Northern Wind" by the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, and "A Child's Embrace" by the Traverse City, Michigan Public Schools. Both of these works were recently accepted for publication by Southern Music Company in San Antonio, Texas.

In March, Young led "If You Can Talk, You Can Write Music" workshops to over 750 public school music students and educators in Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Young also has served as an adjudicator for the Wisconsin School Music Association Composers Competition, the Iowa Jazz Championships and served as guest composer at West Des Moines Valley High School, the high school that received the Grammy Award in 1999 as the Outstanding Public School music program in the nation. He also authored an article, "A Composition Lesson With Beethoven" for the SOUNDTREE Resource Guide, the most circulated journal in the nation dealing with music technology in education.
