Froehlke resigns at UW-Stevens Point
Chancellor Tom George today announced that Bruce Froehlke has resigned as University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Foundation president and assistant to the chancellor for University Advancement.
"I have accepted Bruces resignation with sadness and reluctance," George said. "He has made major contributions to the university."
Froehlke was hired in 1997 as executive director of the foundation. Two years later he also was appointed as assistant to the chancellor for university advancement. He was named foundation president one year ago.
Prior to coming to UWSP, Froehlke served in development positions at Haverford and Macalester Colleges and at the Greater Minneapolis United Way.
"We have experienced tremendous growth in development during Bruces tenure," George commented. "The year before his arrival, we raised $850,000. UWSP averaged $2.5 million annually in gift income during the past two years. Despite market losses and declining foundation operating budgets, the assets have grown from $7 million to over $12 million.
"Bruces resignation is a great loss," UWSP Foundation Board Chair John Ross said, "but we understand his wish to take his life in a different direction."
When asked about his future plans, Froehlke said, "Ive always envied the ability of faculty members to take sabbaticals and write. Im awarding myself a sabbatical, and well see if I have a book in me."
