UWSP graduates receive interior architecture awards
Two recent graduates of the interior architecture program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point were the sole winners of the first student awards given by the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).
Claudia Rudolph (2002) and Julie Eberhardy-Baird (2001) midyear UWSP graduates, received silver awards for their design of "Crowleys Ridge Nature Center," a thesis project completed for a course in their senior year. During the semester course, the plans developed by the students were juried by architects and interior designers from Stuck Associates, the firm hired by Arkansas Game and Fish to design the nature center. The architects, from their firm in Arkansas, viewed and discussed the plans presented by student teams via a videoconference hookup. Assistant Professor Donna Zimmerman taught the course. For the ASID competition, project submissions were juried by professional interior designers from the Oklahoma Chapter of ASID.
The ASID formal awards ceremony was held recently in Milwaukee at the Cabot Theater. Professor Patricia Kluetz, student chapter adviser, led the UWSP delegation that included Kristine Karl of Minocqua, student chapter president, Melissa Hubatch of West Bend, chapter secretary, and Leah Worzella of Wausau, first-year chapter representative.
The program also included awards in a variety of categories presented to professional designers in the state. Matt Kerr, a recent UWSP graduate and staff member of the Zimmerman Design Group, Milwaukee, won a gold award for healthcare/medical design, along with Lise Jansen.
Rudolph of Fond du Lac now works for Interior Systems, Inc., of Fond du Lac/Milwaukee, and Eberhardy-Baird of Belleville is employed by Revelations Architects-Builders of Stevens Point.
ASID is the largest professional organization representing interior designers in the United States and Canada. The organization participated in the development of the National Building Code and is actively involved in promoting the movement towards the certification, registration and licensing of professional interior designers throughout the country.
