UWSP Wind Ensemble to perform with middle school band
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Wind Ensemble will perform with the Mosinee Middle School Band on Friday, March 3.
The event will be held in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Part of the Music Department Scholarship Series, admission is $6.75 for the general public, $3.75 for senior citizens, $2.75 for youth and free the day of the concert for UWSP students with ID. Tickets are available at the UWSP Box Office, Room 103A University Center, (715) 346-4100 or (800) 838-3378 or at the door if the concert is not sold out in advance.
The program will include works by J.S. Bach, Charles Ives, Aaron Copland, Bruce Pearson, and Walter Piston. The performance will also feature the premier of "Morning Hike," composed by UWSP student Joseph Stillwell of Kohler. The winds and percussion members of the Mosinee Middle School Band, directed by Megan Rew, will join the Wind Ensemble for two of the selections. The performance will be conducted by Scott Teeple, associate professor of music and director of bands at UWSP.
Teeple also conducts the UWSP Wind Ensemble and teaches conducting and music education courses. Before coming to UWSP, he was the assistant director of bands at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He conducted the Michigan Youth Band, had frequent appearances with the Symphony and Concert Bands, taught music education and served as assistant director of the Marching Band. Teeple has served as director of bands at Port Huron Northern High School and as a clinician and conductor for honors bands throughout the United States. He has been part of the faculty at St. Clair County Community College, worked on the brass staff of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, and taught low brass for the All-State program at Interlochen.
