Alumnus returns as visiting artist

Matthew Groshek, a 1982 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, will return to UWSP as a visiting artist on Monday, January 30.

While at UWSP, Groshek will jury the Wisconsin Student Graphic Design Exhibition. He also will deliver a public presentation sponsored by the Carlsten Art Gallery and the UWSP Department of Art and Design Central Wisconsin Idea. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Room 285 of the Noel Fine Arts Center and will be open to the public free of charge.

Groshek graduated from UWSP in 1982 with a bachelor of fine arts degree. He went on to get a master�s of fine arts degree from UW-Milwaukee in 1986. In 1990, Groshek received a National Endowment for the Arts grant for his sculpture and became the principal for Education Design Link, an interpretive design firm. His clients include the Wisconsin Humane Society, The San Diego Museum of Man, Riveredge Earthcenter, and the Betty Brinn Children�s Museum. In 1999, Groshek researched, developed and designed the Milwaukee Green Map, a representation of ecologically and environmentally significant sites and systems in Milwaukee County. He is currently working on a similar project in Indianapolis and works closely with the Green Map Systems international program.

Groshek currently holds a joint appointment as a Public Scholar of Civic Engagement in Exhibition Planning and Design in the Department of Visual Communications at the Herron School of Art and Design, and as a designer for Norwest Corporation Museum Studies Faculty in the School of Liberal Arts at Purdue University.
