Student art on exhibit in Carlsten Gallery
The "State Student Graphic Design Exhibition" is on display in the Edna Carlsten Gallery in the Noel Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point through Sunday, March 5.
The exhibition features class generated work by graphic design students from several universities in Wisconsin including UWSP, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Stout, UW-Green Bay, and others. Winners of the State Student Graphic Design Competition, juried by visiting artist Matthew Groshek, will be announced at a reception on Saturday, February 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gallery.
Groshek, a 1982 graduate of UWSP, currently holds a joint appointment as a Public Scholar of Civic Engagement in Exhibition Planning and Design in the Department of Visual Communications at the Herron School of Art and Design. He also is a designer for Norwest Corporation Museum Studies Faculty in the School of Liberal Arts at Purdue University. Groshek is known for his work on the Milwaukee Green Map, a visual representation of the important ecologically sites and systems in Milwaukee County. He is currently working on a similar project in Indianapolis and works closely with the Green Map Systems international program.
The Schneider Student Gallery, located inside the Carlsten Gallery, will feature recent work by UWSP student Scott Cook of Waupaca now through Wednesday, February 22. The exhibit will open with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15 in the gallery.
The Schneider Gallery also will feature recent work by UWSP student Brian Nikila of Stevens Point from Saturday, February 25 through Sunday, March 5. There will be a reception for the exhibit from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1 in the gallery.
The galleries are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m., and evenings when performances are scheduled in the Fine Arts Center. For more information, call (715) 346-4945.
