Punk Show comes to UW-Stevens Point
"Punk in Point," a live show presented by Centertainment Productions, will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The performance at 7 p.m. in the Encore of the University Center (UC) is $5 for the public and free to UWSP students with ID.
The lineup is subject to change, but is expected to include "Lucky Boys Confusion," "Bosio," "Members of the Yellow Press," "The Mystery Girls," and "Crossed Wires."
"Lucky Boys Confusion," a Chicago-based band, has been gathering a wider fan base for the past several years. With tour stops in places such as New York, Chicago, Toronto, and Minneapolis, the band is touring many of the major punk strong holds in North America.
"Bosio," hailing from Milwaukee, is a reorganization of the band "Seven Days of Samsara." With Jeff Mileander on vocals and guitar, Andy Silverman on guitar and "tough guy" vocals, Casey Masterson on bass, and Devin Drobka on drums, the band puts out a unique style of pop-punk and hardcore rock that appeals to all types of listeners.
The "Members of the Yellow Press," another group that calls Milwaukee home, is a four-piece group that combines raw talent with a desire to get people to think and get involved. The band lists the "Misfits" as one of their main influences and seems to have a hard time nailing down a name for its particular style. The members consider themselves alternative, pop rock, punk, ska, and even hardcore.
"The Mystery Girls," graduates of Green Bays Southwest High School, describe their music as "loud high-energy blues rocknroll." Jordan Davis, Matt Conger, Jamis Kipp, Casey Grajek and Peter Pearson comprise the group that has developed a name for itself, playing clubs in the Green Bay area as well as dates in Chicago, Milwaukee and Michigan.
"Crossed Wires" is a punk trio featuring a vocalist/guitarist, a bass player and a drummer. The band is relatively new on the punk scene, but has already scheduled several show dates in February and March.
