Public forum on Palestinian-Israeli conflict at UWSP
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will host a public forum on "The Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: History, Realities, and Prospects for Resolution."
The forum will be held Tuesday, February 28 at 6:30 p.m. in Room A121 of the Science Building. Sponsored by the departments of geography/geology, history, philosophy, and sociology and the Womens Studies program, the event is open to the public free of charge.
The forum will begin with a brief historical overview of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict presented by Nancy Turner, a member of the history faculty at UW-Platteville. Presentations will be given by Mohammed Abed and Ben Manski and followed by discussion.
Abed is an advanced graduate student and lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at UW-Madison. He speaks frequently on the topic of alternative solutions to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and on the plight of Palestinian refugees. He will address those issues and the role of the United States in the conflict.
Manski is a Jewish resident of Wisconsin who spent his childhood in Israel. He is currently a fellow in the Liberty Tree Foundation for the Democratic Revolution. He will discuss the history of UW investment policy and how current university policy impacts the humanitarian crisis in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Israel.
For more information, please contact Salvatore Engel-Di Mauro, UWSP assistant professor of geography/geology, at sengeldi@uwsp.edu or (715) 346-4718.
